The Volunteer Regional Food Pantry was started in 1992 at the Unity Union Church, serving about 10 families. As the pantry grew, our volunteers knew they had to find another place. We moved to the Community Center on School Street and stayed there for about a year, until we outgrew that space, as well.
We then moved to the Unity Elementary School, which provided enough room for the distribution. At this time we distributed 20,000 pounds of food per month. At each distribution, the volunteers would have to carry the food from the warehouse to the school and then back, a laborious process. Because of this, we began to look for a new headquarters.
Sometimes the Food Pantry has overstock of produce or baked goods and they bring them to the town office. We would like to alert folks when this happens. Sign up for email alerts using the button in the righthand column, and we will post when food is available.
