PRESS RELEASE

UARRC BEGINS REACCEPTING GLASS

All town clerks, please pass on to your residents and post on your notifications boards and website.

The Unity Area Regional Recycling Center (UARRC) will begin accepting glass again, beginning March 2, 2021. Residents, please start saving and recycling your glass.

In 2020, UARRC successfully participated in a Maine Department of Environmental Protection (MDEP) grant program.  MDEP awarded UARRC funding to purchase, install, and operate a glass crushing machine.

Glass that is not recycled goes to a landfill and does not break down.  The glass crusher reduces glass containers into coarse sized sand.  This sand can be used the same as any other sand for treating ice covered surfaces, as part of a concrete mix, etc.

All colors and types of glass is recyclable, except for Compact Fluorescent Lightbulbs (CFLs), FluorescentLight Tubes, and containers that have held pesticides or hazardous waste.  Please ensure that your glass containers are washed and the labels are removed.

If you have any questions please call the UARRC at (207) 568-3117 and speak with Jeff or Steve.
