From Charley Gage:
Eileen Gage, 90, died peacefully on Friday, June 9, 2017, at her home in Troy.
She was born on December 17, 1926, the daughter of the late John and Hilma (Wingate) Getchell. She graduated from Maine Central Institute with the class of 1946. She married Clifton Gage on June 25, 1948 and together they raised their family.
She was employed as a waitress and hostess working at the Lancey House, The Jefferson Hotel, The Fenway, The Silent Women and Webber Steakhouse. She was very social and enjoyed dancing, listening to music, and travelling. Many friends called her by her nickname, Getch. She was a former president of the American Legion Auxiliary in Unity, and a member of the Seven Star Grange in Troy, the Troy Historical Society, the Troy Fire Department Auxiliary, the Troy Senior Citizens, and the Troy Union Church.
Eileen was born in Troy and lived in Pittsfield, Miami, Florida, Waterville, and retired back to the family home in Troy to care for her elderly mother. She enjoyed traveling and especially the coast of Maine where a lobster roll was a favorite. Dancing was another of her passions and during a large party to celebrate her 80th birthday held at the Troy Grange Hall, she showed others younger than she that she still could dance with the best of them. She had a great sense of humor and often would speak with newcomers to learn of their lives and interests. It was rare that she traveled without meeting someone who she knew. Her family and friends will miss her smile, laugh, and caring personality.
She is survived by her son, Charles Gage of Gaithersburg, Maryland, her daughter, Tamra Gage of Troy, and her stepson, Clifton S. Gage, Jr. (Buddy), of Lakeland, Florida, many cousins and relatives, and by her dear friend, Donna R. Huff.
She was predeceased by her parents; her loving husband, Clifton, and by her stepdaughter, Linda (Gage) Refer.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, June 16th, at the Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home, 191 Hartland Avenue, Pittsfield. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 17th, at the funeral home with the Reverend George Darling officiating. A committal will immediately follow at the Village Cemetery, Peltoma Avenue, Pittsfield. A repast will be held at the B.B. Cook Clubhouse, 597 Bangor Road in Troy, at 12:30 p.m.
