The adopted name for the new settlement was
Bridgetown, but it was not until 1812 that there were a sufficient number of settlers to apply for corporation; this was done and the township was incorporated as Kingville, February 22, 1812, the 189th town in the Province of Maine, a part of Massachusetts.
