The President has signed the trucks bill. Today the Rossels reported that the Bangor Road was quiet . It has been a long time coming. A big thank you to all who fought for it.

Recycling Center

WHO WE ARE
Founded in 1991, the Unity Area Regional Recycling Center is owned by nine member towns. These towns are Brooks, Dixmont, Freedom, Jackson, Knox, Montville, Thorndike, Troy and Unity.

OVERVIEW
Our goal is to reduce the amount of trash entering into the solid waste stream. The UARRC is where participating towns and residents bring recyclable materials, including Universal Hazardous Waste and Mixed Electronic Waste.

Residents of member towns use the Recycling Center at no additional cost. Residents of non-member towns may purchase an annual membership for $10.

Food Pantry

The Volunteer Regional Food Pantry was started in 1992 at the Unity Union Church, serving about 10 families. As the pantry grew, our volunteers knew they had to find another place. We moved to the Community Center on School Street and stayed there for about a year, until we outgrew that space, as well. We then moved to the Unity Elementary School, which provided enough room for the distribution. At this time we distributed 20,000 pounds of food per month. At each distribution, the volunteers would have to carry the food from the warehouse to the school and then back, a laborious process. Because of this, we began to look for a new headquarters.
